Lambda Theta Alpha As the first Latina sorority in the nation Lambda Theta Alpha has a strong history of social change, women's empowerment, and creating a lifelong sisterhood for its members. The seventies was a time for social change across the country. Universities saw it's first influx of minority students. The equality struggle however, was not over. In an environment that did not meet the social and personal needs for students of color, particularly women, seventeen ladies sought to create their own network in which they could prosper and grow. In 1975, at Kean University New Jersey, our founding mothers established Lambda Theta Alpha. For over thirty years the sisterhood has expanded coast to coast with undergraduate, graduate, and alumnae chapters in over twenty states and Puerto Rico. Thirty years later Lambda Theta Alpha continues promoting and nurturing the academic, professional, and personal growth of its members.
